In a way it’s hard to believe, but my exhausted state confirms that we are half way through the autumn semester already. Undoubtedly the biggest challenge I faced during the last 6 weeks was teaching ‘General Chemistry’ to a class of 70 students taking Keele’s Foundation Year in its various forms. It’s a challenge because of the diversity of the Chemistry experience of the students, which ranges from those who have studied up to A level, to those who have almost no Chemistry at all. Keeping it both interesting and accessible to this wide range of experience/ability is definitely not trivial! We’ll see how they get on when I mark the test they all did on Thursday.
The rest of this weekend will include a mad rush to finish my exam questions, and get my proposals for sessions at next year’s British Science Festival submitted. Wish me luck with that!
