Results Day: Then and Now

Yesterday our students got their degree results. They were sent electronically, so there was no need to travel to the University to collect them. As it was, the semester ended a week ago anyway, so they had mostly vacated their accommodation already.

Flash back 10 years or so, and Results Day was the last day of the semester. Everyone was here, and results were put on lists that went up all over the University. They used to contain actual names, but then became anonymised by just giving registration numbers. But anyway, it was a real occasion of celebration for those who had done well, and we could join in and celebrate with our students. Now that doesn’t happen any more, and I think life is the poorer for it!

This year I will be at a conference in Poland when our students graduate, so I won’t see most of them again. But I am very proud of them all, and wish them the very best for the future.
